The Latvian Association of Consulting Engineers had the honour of hosting in Riga representatives of the Board of the European Federation of Engineering Consultancy Associations (EFCA), as well as colleagues from the Estonian Association of Architectural and Consulting Engineering Companies and the Lithuanian Association of Engineering Consulting Companies. The meeting took place on 4 March 2026.
During the meeting, participants discussed current developments in the construction sector and key issues affecting consulting engineers in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Representatives of EFCA also presented the latest developments in the federation’s activities.
Important topics for the Baltic states were addressed, including the progress of the Rail Baltica project in each country and its future development prospects, the evaluation criteria used in procurement procedures for engineering consultancy services, issues related to professional liability insurance, particularly the elimination of unlimited liability. Participants also discussed developments related to the growing use of artificial intelligence in construction processes, including aspects of copyright and liability.
At the end of the day, during a joint dinner, participants expressed their appreciation for the well-organized event and concluded that several important issues could be addressed more effectively at the EFCA level by making use of the federation’s capacity and influence. The Baltic associations also agreed to strengthen their cooperation and more frequently to exchange their experience in order to address challenges that may be difficult for a single national association to resolve alone.
